Velianitatika Retreat
About a kilometre inland from Gaios, a small country road winds its way through the old village of Velianitatika and after a further 500 metres, ends at one of the most beautiful locations above the west coast – the hamlet of Galazio. A natural and peaceful landscape of olive groves set on hillside terraces, peppered with tall cypress trees and majestic umbrella pines.
Velianitatika was once the residential capital of Paxos. The village has a stepped, flagstoned “High Street” with a weathered belltower, a small chapel and a church flanked by olive trees, eight grand houses dating back to the early 19th Century and peaceful seclusion.
Situated privately at the end of the village high street, the Velianitatika Retreat is a beautiful Venetian manor house, which has been brought into the 21st Century to provide a stylish and comfortable escape.
The property is enclosed by stone walls. Through the olive trees, bordering the house, there are glimpses of the sea and the mountains of the Greek mainland.
For keen walkers, the hamlets around Galazio have many ancient goat paths crossing a wild landscape of valleys and hillsides above the west coast. Weathered olive groves, enclosed by lopsided dry stone walls, hide the occasional house and church – here there is only the sound of cicadas.
Private swimming pool (with swim jets) 10.5 x 4 metres & depth 1.30 metres
Maid service and linen change twice weekly.
Location: car hire recommended but not essential. A good supermarket is just 500 metres away. Shops, tavernas & boat hire of Gaios are 1.5 kilometres away. Avlaki beach, on the west coast, is a 5 minute drive or a 20 minute walk. Vontza taverna is on the outskirts of Velianitatika - just a 5 minute walk.
Accommodation:
Ground floor of an open-plan sitting room, dining area and kitchen; one double bedroom and en suite bathroom; one small twin bedroom. First floor of three double bedrooms (two can convert to twins), each with an en suite bathroom. Beside the pool is an annexe double bedroom with an outside shower.

The prices quoted are per week for 5-12 people. Please ask us for reduced prices for 2-4 people (months outside July & August).
