Santolina, or Lavender Cotton, is a small silvery shrub which likes the stony Paxos hillsides. These Mediterranean natives are notable for their attractive foliage, profuse summer show of small, round, button-like flower heads and stout constitutions. All are aromatic if bruised.
Villa Santolina is the result of a recent renovation of a large family house of stone.
The villa sits privately behind the family chapel on a hillside of olive groves above the road leading down to Lakka, which is 1.5 kilometres away. The small hamlet of just a few houses is called Argiratika.
100 metres away is the track leading down to Monodendri Beach (1 kilometre). At one end of the beach there is Bastas Taverna (serving the best grilled octopus and feta pizza we have tasted) and at the other end: Ben’s Bar (with resident masseur and ambient music to accompany a long list of cocktails) and on a hillside terrace above is Eftihia (Ben’s mum)’s excellent taverna with freshly caught fish and freshly plucked ingredients and our favourite lunchtime Paxos view.
From Santolina’s sitting room and pool terrace there are views over the tops of olive groves and across the sea to the mainland of Greece. By night there is a theatre of twinkling lights from the mountain villages on the mainland.
Private swimming pool 7 x 4 metres and depth 0.50 - 1.70 metres

Location: car hire recommended. Monodendri beach is a 3 minute drive away. Loggos is under a 10 minute drive and Lakka is a 5 minute drive. Loggos and Lakka have waterfront tavernas, shops and boat hire.

Ground floor of an open-plan sitting room, dining area and well equipped kitchen; one double bedroom and en suite bathroom with shower; one twin bedroom, which can be converted into a double, and en suite bathroom with shower. Lower ground floor of one twin bedroom, which can be converted into a double; bathroom with shower.

Very swish and great to have absolute privacy.
We walked down to Monodendri beach a couple of times but the walk back is steepish so resorted to using the car.

Great trip to Paxos.
The villa was excellent. We met the owner on a number of occasions and he has made a very good job of the renovation. Very comfortable and well stocked and in a pretty accessible location near Lakka/Manodendri and Loggos.
Your note was very helpful and we ate at many of the places recommended. Never had a bad meal I have to say.
