AntiPaxos FAQs
What are AntiPaxos’ pros & cons?
The pros include beautiful white sandy beaches; a natural escape from the outside world; very few houses (excellent for star gazing as very little light pollution); 4 good tavernas close to the sandy beaches; peace & quiet; 30 friendly locals who will usually invite you in to pick fruit from their gardens if you bump into them; no need to dress up.
The cons include no shops (see below re shopping); tavernas tend to close around 18.30 – 19.30.

What are the options for getting to AntiPaxos?
Our Paxos manager can arrange your hydrofoil or private speedboat charter from Corfu to Paxos. A speedboat transfer (15 minutes) from Gaios on Paxos) to AntiPaxos and jeep transfer to your chosen villa (5 minutes) is included in the villa rental price. Alternatively you can charter a speedboat to take you directly from Corfu to AntiPaxos (around 420 Euros each way).
On your departure day, you will be taken to Gaios port by speedboat where you will be met by our Paxos manager with your hydrofoil tickets, if you have arranged this transfer through him.
If bad weather is forecast for the day of your departure, the caretaker will discuss the option of transferring you to stay in Gaios for the night before your departure. The channel between Paxos and AntiPaxos is only 1 nautical mile but a storm can make the crossing very uncomfortable.

How do I shop for provisions?
Each villa will have the following for your arrival: soap, toilet paper; rubbish bags; cleaning materials; bottled water, coffee, tea, sugar, salt, pepper, olive oil.
You will be met on arrival at Gaios by the villa owner’s representative, who will be taking you to AntiPaxos (with bags) in a speedboat. You have 2 shopping options:

- Send us a list of provisions (at least 7 days before your arrival) and we will pass these on to the villa owner, who will have these in the villa for your arrival. There will be a charge of 50 Euros for this service (payable locally in cash).
- On arrival at Gaios you can leave bags with the representative and shop at a nearby supermarket and take the shopping with you in the speedboat. The representative will give you cool bags.
When you need to do more shopping, you have 3 options:
- At least 1 day before, give a shopping list to the caretaker (Thanasis) or email the list to the villa owner contact details in the villa folder). There will be a 50 Euros charge for this service plus the cost of the provisions (receipt given by supermarket).
- Take one of the Gaios/AntiPaxos/Gaios public service speedboats to shop in Gaios and then return to AntiPaxos with shopping in cool bags.
- You can hire your own boat (30 or 40 HP outboard), keep it moored in AntiPaxos’ little port (Agrapidia) and cross over to Gaios, moor up & shop. Contact us for boat hire details. Hired boat availability in July & August will be limited so prebooking is recommended.
Is it possible to hire a car/jeep on AntiPaxos?
There are no vehicles for hire on AntiPaxos but a Suzuki Jimny 4x4 jeep is included in the Villa Pefka rental price.
What time do the AntiPaxos tavernas close?
The taverna owners live on Paxos and commute each day. Normally they will close about an hour after the last public service speedboat departs from the beaches (17.30) but check with them each day as occasionally one or more of them will stay open later if a few yachts are moored nearby and they can be guaranteed custom.
It’s useful getting to know the taverna owners as if you suddenly run out of an essential provision, you can ask them to help out. They will most probably be able to sell you fresh fish to cook on your barbecue if they are not staying open late.

Do I need cash on AntiPaxos?
There are no ATM’s on AntiPaxos (or traffic lights, car parks, petrol stations!) so bring some cash with you for Thanasis’ shopping services etc., but the tavernas can accept card payments.
Is there a doctor on AntiPaxos?
No. The villa folder will give contact details for the doctors and clinic on Paxos. In an emergency a speedboat transfer to Gaios would be arranged.
Can I hire a boat on AntiPaxos?
Yes. We can put you in touch with a boat hirer on Paxos, who can deliver a boat to you on AntiPaxos.
Corfu FAQs
Do I really need a hire car on Corfu?
Car hire is recommended to have ease of access to all parts of the island. Corfu is a large and diverse island so having a car will add to the enjoyment of exploration and sampling new restaurants etc.
Can I request a roof rack on a hire car for luggage?
This can be requested but not guaranteed. Our island manager can introduce you to recommended car hire companies for a pick up at Corfu airport. If a roof rack cannot be provided then you may need to consider a car with larger boot space or a taxi to carry excess baggage.
Can I find watersports facilities on Corfu?
Yes, there is a good selection of watersports clubs, scuba diving clubs and boat hire agents in different parts of the island.
For car hire does "comprehensive insurance" mean that I will be fully insured?
Best to check all conditions with the car hire company. The car hire companies offer an excess waiver but the cost of this can be high. It may be better value to pre-purchase this waiver from companies such as Questor Insurance (see our Holiday Tips page).

Most shops and tavernas will accept card payments but cash is king.
Are island pharmacies well stocked for most needs?
Yes, very well stocked and always very helpful.

Yes - and if one minimarket may not have what you are after then another most probably will.
Should we bring beach towels with us?
Yes - if there is no mention of beach towels in the villa's description of Facilities. There are shops in each village selling reasonably priced beach towels so if you need extra space in your suitcase, buy when you are there.

Do I need a hire car on Ithaca?
Ithaca is a deceptively large island and hiring a car will give you ease of access to all parts. If you stay in one of the villages, or in Vathy, then hiring a car for the odd day of exploring is a good idea.
Can I request a roof rack on a hire car for luggage?
Hire cars on Ithaca will not have roof racks so our manager can arrange for a taxi to carry luggage if needed.
Where do I go for boat hire?
There are boat hire agents in the ports of Vathy and Kioni. They will all have their own website so look online and contact them for prices etc. They should all give a professional and personal service.
Supply of boats in July and August can be limited so best to prebook.

Do I really need a hire car on Kefalonia?
Car hire is recommended to have ease of access to all parts of the island. The drive from far south to far north can take up to 2 hours and the landscape undulates.
Can I request a roof rack on a hire car for luggage?
This can be requested but not guaranteed but our island manager can arrange for a taxi to carry luggage if needed.
Can I find watersports facilities on Kefalonia?
Yes, there is a good selection of watersports clubs, scuba diving clubs and boat hire agents in different parts of the island.
For car hire does "comprehensive insurance" mean that I will be fully insured?

Do I really need a hire car on Lefkas?
Car hire is recommended to have ease of access to all parts of the island. Lefkas is diverse and it is easier to explore by car than by boat.
Can I request a roof rack on a hire car for luggage?
This can be requested but not guaranteed. Our island manager can introduce you to recommended car hire companies for a pick up at Preveza airport. If a roof rack cannot be provided then you may need to consider a car with larger boot space.
Can I find watersports facilities on Lefkas?
Yes, there is a good selection of watersports clubs, scuba diving clubs and boat hire agents in different parts of the island.

Do I really need a hire car on Meganissi?
Car hire is recommended to have ease of access to all parts of the island. Meganissi is small but hilly and unless one is staying in one of the villages a car is needed to get to shops and tavernas. There is only one taxi on the island.
Are there tavernas/cafe bars close to the Meganissi ferry point at Nidri on Lefkas if there is a wait for the ferry?
Yes - a good selection of waterfront bars and tavernas.
Can I request a roof rack on a hire car for luggage?
This can be requested but not guaranteed. Our island manager can introduce you to recommended car hire companies for a pick up at Preveza airport. If a roof rack cannot be provided then you may need to consider a car with larger boot space.

Most of our Paxos properties will be within walking distance of a bus stop and the taxis offer a reliable service. But car hire will make it easier to explore and to take home shopping.
Can I request a roof rack on a hire car for luggage?
The Paxos hire cars will not have roof racks so our manager can arrange for a taxi to carry luggage if needed.

How do you get to west coast beaches?
Before the arrival of the car there were donkey paths all over the island. Many of these paths still exist but most of the the ones leading to the west coast beaches are overgrown so best to hire a boat and you can then explore both coasts and cross the 1-mile channel to AntiPaxos.
Are there many beaches with sunloungers?
Most of Paxos' beaches are natural and without sunloungers. Beaches with a taverna/bar will have sunloungers (Harami & Monodendri near Lakka; Levrecchio near Loggos; Anassa & Kaki Lagatha near Gaios; Mogonisi; Vrika & Voutoumi on AntiPaxos) and there will usually be a charge.
