About a kilometre inland from Gaios, a small country road winds its way through the old village of Velianitatika and after a further 500 metres, ends at one of the most beautiful locations above the west coast – the hamlet of Galazio. A natural and peaceful landscape of olive groves set on hillside terraces, peppered with tall cypress trees and majestic umbrella pines.
Velianitatika was once the residential capital of Paxos. The village has a stepped, flagstoned “High Street” with a weathered belltower, a small chapel and a church flanked by olive trees, eight grand houses dating back to the early 19th Century and peaceful seclusion.
Situated in the heart of the small village, opposite the church, The Garage is the culmination of a ‘pipe dream’ for the owners who first spotted its derelict form on honeymoon in 2011. The space has now been converted into a bright and spacious two bedroom home.
There is a lot of light throughout the property with the sky light above the bed transforming into a star gazing window on a clear night.
For keen walkers, the hamlets around Galazio have many ancient goat paths crossing a wild landscape of valleys and hillsides above the west coast. Weathered olive groves, enclosed by lopsided dry stone walls, hide the occasional house and church – here there is only the sound of cicadas.

Location: car hire recommended but not essential. Shops, tavernas & boat hire of Gaios are 1.5 kilometres. Avlaki beach, on the west coast, is a 5 minute drive or a 20 minute walk. Two tavernas & a mini-market, on the outskirts of Velianitatika, are a 5 minute walk.
Accommodation: The Garage has one outside space, a front courtyard garden. Ground floor of an open- plan sitting room, dining area and kitchen; double bedroom and en suite bathroom with shower; second bathroom First floor mezzanine bedroom that can accommodate 2-4 guests with a single or double bed. An additional space with a day-bed for reading or additional sleeping.
