Lucie
The three small ports on Paxos offer a peaceful escape from the crowds but it is often more relaxing to stay just outside a port or village in a more countrified and private location.
Villa Lucie is under a kilometre away from Lakka's waterfront but its totally private and secluded location gives the wonderful feeling of a countrified retreat.
Up in the hills above Lakka a cluster of small hamlets hide away amongst ancient olive groves and pine forest. Vassilatika is one of these hamlets and was once a safe retreat for local families hoping to evade 18th Century pirates but is now deserted apart from a few recently converted houses.
Villa Lucie is a beautiful stone house, set in a hillside olive grove halfway up from Lakka to Vassilatika village.
The owner, a daredevil Paxos tree surgeon, has spent three years creating a comfortable and private retreat. Spacious rooms and thick stone walls keep the interiors cool in hotter weather.
On each side of the villa is a shaded terrace: one with cushioned comfort and the other an elaborate kitchen and dining area.
Lucie has peaceful seclusion and wonderful views over a valley of olive groves and cypress trees and across the sea to the mountains of the Greek mainland. Only a few distant rooftops in the valley are just visible amongst the silver-leafed olive trees.
From Vassilatika there are many ancient (and largely untrodden) footpaths leading to other hamlets above Lakka, the church and campanile of Ipapandi and up to the west coast.
Villa Lucie's owner has cleared a pathway through the olive groves down to Planos beach on the west coast - a shaded walk of 10 minutes (needs appropriate footwear). You can follow the track & steps leading down to Lakka - a walk of 15 minutes.

Location: car hire recommended for ease of access to all parts of the island. Lakka is just under 1 kilometre away and has a good selection of tavernas, shops and boat hire. Beaches within Lakka Bay and nearby Lighthouse beach.
Accommodation: an open-plan sitting room, dining area and kitchen; one double bedroom, bathroom with shower. Stairs to a mezzanine twin bedroom with a low raftered ceiling.
