Velianitatika was once the capital of Paxos. During the Venetian occupation, in the early 19th Century, grand village houses were built for the Paxos aristocracy.

About a kilometre inland from Gaios, a small country road winds its way through the old village of Velianitatika and after a further 500 metres, ends at one of the most beautiful locations above the west coast – the hamlet of Galazio. A natural and peaceful landscape of olive groves set on hillside terraces, peppered with tall cypress trees and majestic umbrella pines.

Just outside Velianitatika, Villa Clementini hides away in terraced gardens, surrounded by olive groves.

The large gardens and stone terraces surrounding the house provide many areas to find sun and shade and to enjoy peaceful seclusion.

For keen walkers, the hamlets around Galazio have many ancient goat paths crossing a wild landscape of valleys and hillsides above the west coast. Weathered olive groves, enclosed by lopsided dry stone walls, hide the occasional house and church – here there is only the sound of cicadas.
