The Greek word “Aetofolia” means Eagle’s Nest.
Built by a Roman 15 years ago, Aetofolia’s hilltop hideaway has total privacy and one of the most incredible views we have encountered on Paxos.
From Gaios, a road above the harbour’s entrance leads to the new port. About 500 metres along this road a turning into a steep track climbs 100 metres to the private grounds of Aetofolia.
The villa’s front terraces look down to the pine forest and old fortifications of the Venetian castle on St. Nicholas island, which forms the fjord-like entrance to Gaios port. The views then open out to create a theatre of colour and movement: fishing boats, yachts and small ferries entering and departing from the harbour; local folk ambling along the waterfront; the walled nunnery of Panagia island; the olive groves of the eastern coastline and across the sea to the Greek mainland.
The villa’s interiors are spacious, comfortable and are furnished as a “home with character” – no modern opulence but all leading to terraces with those views; a large and very well equipped kitchen and a combination of soft colours in the living areas and bedrooms.
Moor your hire boat on the waterfront just below the villa.
Private swimming pool with “swim jet” 9.5 x 2.50 metres & depth 1.20 metres
Maid service & linen change twice weekly
Location: car hire recommended. A walk to Gaios waterfront would take 10 minutes but a steep walk back. By car the shops, tavernas and boat hire of Gaios are just 3 minutes. In the opposite direction, the first of many east coast beaches is within a 5 minute drive.
Accommodation:
Open-plan sitting room and dining room; 4 steps up to 3 double bedrooms (each with an en suite shower room); kitchen. External access via 10 steps down to a twin bedroom and en suite shower room.
Facilities:
Aetofolia has a 4 metre drop from a side terrace so not suitable for toddlers.
We usually stay in Gaios itself but Aetofolia was the perfect choice this time - it is such a pretty place and the villa has fantastic views.
Very peaceful.
Thank you for helping us to choose Aetofolia - we thought it was fabulous. Away from the bustle of village life but close enough when wanting it. I have hundreds of photos of the views to bore my friends!
