The beautiful property of House 1716 deserves a brief historical introduction.

House 1716 derives its name from the year it was expanded from a small lodge into a larger residence. The same year saw a victory for the occupying Venetian forces against an Ottoman invasion and after a 6-week siege of Corfu, peace was restored to the island. Over the years the owners added barns, wine cellars, an olive press and warehouses, turning it into a farm that produced olive oil and excellent wine. In more recent years the estate has been converted into a private residence and is now offered as a special retreat for those seeking a more unusual escape from the crowds.

House 1716 is on the outskirts of the small hamlet of Stavros, 13 kilometres inland from the seaside village of Benitses and Corfu Old Town. Agios Gordios and other sandy beaches on the west coast are 20 kilometres away.

The property has 12 acres of established gardens with total privacy. There are stunning views down a valley of olive groves and cypress trees and across the sea to the mountains of the Greek and Albanian mainland.

House 1716 holds soft memories of its colourful past and provides modern comforts for those looking for an elegant, private retreat.

Location: car hire recommended. The nearest minimarket is in Agioi Deka village, two kilometres away. The coastal village of Benitses, a drive of 10 miutes, has a good selection of tavernas, shops and bakeries.

Accommodation: the property consists of two separate wings, each just a few paces apart.

The North Wing has a large sitting room and dining area; kitchen; guest bathroom with shower; one double bedroom suite with en suite shower room; two double bedrooms, each with an en suite shower room.

The South Wing has a sitting room; kitchen; two double bedrooms, each with an en suite shower room.

The per week prices shown are for up to 10 people using both Wings. Please ask us for reduced prices for use of just the North Wing for up to 6 people.
