Corfu’s south west coastline is a far cry from the more frequented north east – on this less populated coastline lies Lake Korission, protected from the sea by a long stretch of sandy beach called Halikounas.

The lake is a haven for over 100 species of birdlife including great white egrets, oyster catchers and curlews.

Halikounas beach has soft sand dunes and no beachfront building. Surrounding areas are unspoilt: farmland, olive and citrus groves, plant nurseries and pine copses, sandy coves, simple waterfront tavernas and a pleasing lack of large hotels.

The coastline north of Halikounas has smaller sandy beaches (Kanouli, Prassoudi and others).

As Nigel Summerley expressed in a Sunday Times article: "Here you'll find ancient olive groves, cliffs that fall away to untouched bays and villages that have seemingly succumbed to perpetual siesta."

Villa Anetta lies next door to Villas Harmonia and Kochili and is surrounded by olive groves and is just 150 metres away from the sandy beach of Kanouli.

It has a peaceful, private and natural location with views over olive groves and up to mountainsides of maquis scrub.

The shallow end of the pool has a wide shelf where the sunloungers appear to float on the water. The barbecue is close to the pool for a cooling dunk when the heat gets too much.

Location: car hire recommended to explore and to have easy access to nearby tavernas, shops and other beaches. The nearest taverna is at Prassoudi beach - just over a kilometre away. The shops and tavernas of sleepy Agios Mattheos are 5 kilometres away. Messonghi, 7 kilometres away on the east coast, has a larger selection of tavernas and shops. Halikounas beach is 10 kilometres south. Corfu Town is 23 kilometres.
