Melia
Just north of Agni and Kalami on Corfu’s north east coastline, a twisting road drops down to the enchanting and much photographed bay of Kouloura. Just above a small port within the bay is the Taverna Kouloura, which has been in the Ginargirou family for three generations. The taverna has a reputation for excellent fish dishes and its waterfront location is special.
On a hilltop above Kouloura, 2.5 kilometres from the family taverna, Elena and Matina Ginargirou and their father have renovated their family olive press (dating back to the 19th Century) and have built another house next door. Melia is on an upper hillside terrace and Karya, once the olive press, sits on a lower terrace terrace. Each house has good privacy, rich and fragrant gardens and stunning views.
Verandahs look out over the north east coastline, beaches backed by pine, cypress, carob and olive trees and across the sea to Albania.
Included in the price of a stay at Melia and Karya is a daily breakfast at Taverna Kouloura.

Location: car hire recommended. The nearby coastline has a series of pretty beaches including Houhoulios, a natural beach (no sunbeds) with shade provided by eucalyptus trees, and Lardi beach. A little further is the larger beach at Kerasia. Kassiopi is 5 kilometres away. Kalami has a larger selection of tavernas, minimarkets and watersports. Boat hire can be found at Kalami, Agni and Agios Stefanos.
Accommodation: Open-plan sitting room, dining area and kitchen; one double bedroom (can convert to a twin) and one twin bedroom (can convert to a double), both with an en suite bathroom. Lower floor hammam bath.
