Our opinion is that the 3 Assos Bay Villas have the best location and views in Assos.
The sheltered bay of Assos lies on the west coast of Kefalonia, just north of Myrtos beach and easy striking distance of Fiscardo.
Myrtos beach is probably the most photographed beach on the island and Assos is possibly the most photographed village.
The remains of a Venetian fortress look down on to hillside terraces of brightly coloured houses, umbrella pines and olive trees. A pretty waterfront of tavernas and café bars, shaded by tall plane trees, looks out over local fishing boats.
Assos has no music bars and appeals to those who want a peaceful escape from a hurried outside world.
With a private location, on a hillside just above the sea (no buildings in front), the Assos Bay Villas are a 5 minute walk away from the village waterfront.
Seahorse and Barbouni are both on an upper hillside terrace and Astakos is on a lower terrace. Seahorse and Barbouni each have a private swimming pool; Astakos does not.
Astakos has stunning views: to the left, the fortress and the village houses; to the right, the harbour entrance.
Apart from the three village beaches, a small secluded beach is accessible from the rocks below Astakos - a short swim. Boats for hire can be found on the village waterfront. Above the village there are ancient donkey trails leading to natural vantage points for a more dramatic theatre of sunset.
The villas have a parking area and from here there are 59 steps down to Astakos.
Maid service & linen change twice weekly
Location: car hire recommended for those who want to explore but not needed for those happy to spend their time in a beautiful location with ever-changing views. The access road down to Assos is steep. Myrtos beach is a 10 minute drive. Fiscardo is a 30 minute drive.
Accommodation: open-plan sitting room, dining area and kitchen; one double bedroom; bathroom with shower.
