Kalika
The island of Ithaca is deceptively large. Seen from the sea it appears to be inhabited by a very few but an exploration of the north and the south parts (a narrow, mountainous ridge divides the two) introduces clusters of small hamlets, hidden within valleys of olive groves, cypress forest, vineyards and grazing meadows (sheep bells do on occasion break the silence).
Villa Kalika hides away on the outskirts of the sleepy hamlet of Lahos, in the northern part of Ithaca, 3 kilometres inland from small the port of Frikes, 3.5 kilometres from the village of Stavros and just below the hilltop village of Exhogi, which gazes down to the chalky blue waters within Afales Bay.
The villa is the result of a 4 year renovation of a 19th Century stone house. Kalika is now a stylish and elegant retreat with total privacy. In the owners' words, they have “taken care to pay homage to the old whilst celebrating the new.” An attractive fusion of traditional stone and polished concrete with mod cons.
Surrounding terraces, bordered by lavender, lead to a terraced garden of almond, lemon, pomegranate and fig trees.
Coco-mat beds and linen provide luxurious modern and organic comfort. The open-plan kitchen is equipped to high, modern standards.
A contemporary 10 metre lap pool (salt water) - bordered by indigenous shrubs with sun decks both in and out of the water, overlooking the Marmakas hills and the Frikes valley.
We consider Villa Kalika to be one of the most beautiful and comfortable homes we have seen on Ithaca.

Location: car hire recommended. The village of Stavros (tavernas, shops & cafebars) is a 10 minute drive and the seaside village of Frikes (boat hire, tavernas & shops) is just under a 10 minute drive.
Accommodation: ground floor of an open-plan sitting room, dining area and kitchen; one double bedroom and one twin bedroom, each with an "open-plan" bathroom with shower; cloakroom; utility room. Stairs down to two twin bedrooms, each with an "open-plan" bathroom with shower.
