Thalassophiles (lovers of the sea) will feel at home at Villa Tifonas.
Corfu’s south west coastline of sandy beaches frames a peaceful and agricultural landscape of olive groves, citrus orchards and vineyards, beneath the mountain village and monastery of Agios Mattheos.
As Nigel Summerley expressed in a Sunday Times travel article: "Here you'll find ancient olive groves, cliffs that fall away to untouched bays and villages that have seemingly succumbed to perpetual siesta."
On this coastline lies Lake Korission, protected from the sea by a long stretch of sandy beach called Halikounas. The lake is a haven for over 100 species of birdlife including flamingos, great white egrets, purple herons, oyster catchers and curlews. The beach has soft sand dunes and no beachfront building.
The north east coast of Corfu is beautiful, with small bays fringed by cypress trees, but the south west coast has a wilder, less tamed feel that will appeal more to the escapist.
Villa Tifonas enjoys peaceful seclusion and privacy with panoramic sea views across to Paxos, nine miles away, and dramatic sunsets.
Tifonas, and neighbouring sister villa Fortouna are just a ten minute walk south to Halikounas beach, a ten minute walk north to Alonaki beach and a five minute walk to the excellent Alonaki Bay Taverna.
Tifonas' owner has created comfortable living areas both inside and outside. With so few houses in the area, light pollution is minimal and stargazing is theatrical.

Location: car hire recommended. There are 3 tavernas within 700 metres. The pretty hilltop village of Agios Mattheos is a 10 minute drive (supermarkets and tavernas). The shops and tavernas of Agios Georgios (water sports) is 10 kilometres south. Corfu Old Town is a 40 minute drive away.
