Sami Bay House
Half way up Cephalonia’s east coast, the port of Sami has a waterfront of tavernas, bakeries and grocery stores and just a few small hotels. It was used as a location for the filming of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin but has not become a large tourist resort. It is a small, working port, close to a string of beautiful beaches.
Behind the port of Sami are hillside terraces of olive groves and copses of cypress trees. Sami Bay House has peaceful, private gardens on three of the lower terraces. The House has a countrified feel yet is just above the last few houses on the outskirts of the port – a 5 minute walk to the waterfront shops and tavernas.
The house has electric gates and a private driveway - no passing traffic.
Views from the house are dramatic: over Sami waterfront, along the coastline to the entrance to Agia Efimia port, up to the mountains of northern Kefalonia and across the sea to Ithaca.
A perfect spot to survey an ever-changing nautical theatre: the arrival and departure of ferries to and from Italy, Patras and Ithaca; yachts large and small; local fishing boats.
Sami Bay House overlooks but is not overlooked.
The owner has planted his gardens colourfully and the accommodation is surrounded by terraces of olive, orange, mulberry, almond and tangerine trees.
