Homer wrote that when the Phaeacians returned Odysseus to Ithaca, he hid their gifts in the Cave of the Nymphs. It is believed by many that this cave is the Marmaro Spilia (Marble Cave), which is to be found 500 metres away from Villa Calypso, 2.5 kilometres north of Vathy.

Villa Calypso has total privacy within large private grounds of hillside terraces, filled with olive groves; fig, pear, apricot, pomegranate, lemon and plum trees and vineyards. Calypso guests are able to pick for their daily needs. Wild herbs such as oregano, thyme and spearmint, line the nearby goat paths.

Calypso’s sister villa, Hermes, is hidden from view about 50 metres away.

The views take in a beautiful coastal landscape of olive groves, the large bays of Aetos and Dexa and Ithaca's Mount Neritos. Only one or two houses can be seen in the far distance and the surrounding hillside is pastoral peace personified.

There are a good selection of beaches on both east and west coasts – all within a 10 minute drive. The nearest, in Dexa Bay, is 2 kilometres away.

For lovers of seclusion, tranquillity, dramatic sea views and hillside walks, Calypso will provide a special retreat.

"Calypso is the perfect house for a relaxing stay. So peaceful, with an amazing view. We hardly left the house except to go for our daily swim out to the island from Dexa Beach. Sofia was a charming and helpful hostess. Loved it."

"Nico’s restaurant in the street to the left of the National Bank in Vathy, has been a delight for local food and should be recommended to all. Our old favourite from times visiting Ithaca for a day by hired boat from Fiskardo, Polyphemus at Stavros, remains exquisite - they appear serious about retiring this year - a great shame for us visitors."

Wyatt family, 7-Jul-2015

"Our second time here - keep the landscape as it is please - it's rare to have a fantastic view without any other houses in sight."
