Off the East coast of the Pelion peninsula of mainland Greece are the Sporades islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros. The islands are richly forested with pine and olive, and have an attractive landscape of cultivated hillsides, which overlook sparkling beaches of sand and pebble.

Skiathos, although the smallest of the Sporades, has an airport and therefore attracts the most visitors. A regular hydrofoil service connects the islands.

Life on Skopelos is led at a slow pace. The pace on Alonissos is slower and will appeal to those looking for a restful escape from the outside world.

Alonissos is an island of contrasts: a rich green interior of umbrella pine forest, olive groves and plum orchards; small, secluded beaches and deep sea caves carved out of steep cliff faces; sheltered ports with a colourful jostle of large and small fishing caiques.

Hire a boat with outboard and explore the south-eastern coastline, passing the small fishing village of Votsi; the pretty harbour of Steni Vala with its waterfront tavernas specialising in rich soups of scorpion fish and mullet; the neighbouring island of Peristera, carpeted with wild olive trees; the seaside hamlet of Kalamakia, consisting of three family homes each with their own taverna above a jetty and a string of secluded beaches below wooded hillsides.

Paparouna is set on a hillside terrace just below the island’s Old Town.

The villa’s many balconies and terraces have privacy and dramatic views down the valley to Patitiri harbour and across the open sea to the islands of Ta Theo Adelfia. The main swimming pool is on the villa’s upper terrace and a smaller pool (heated) is on a lower terrace.

The shops and tavernas of the Old Town and Patitiri are within a ten minute drive. The nearby forested area of Kato Horafi is wonderful for walking and watching the graceful Eleonora falcons circling overhead.

Paparouna is a comfortable and stylish home with spacious interiors opening out on to relaxing and dining terraces, bordered by roses and bougainvillaea.

First swimming pool is 10 x 5 metres & depth 0.75 – 2.20 metres. Second pool (heated) is 6.20 x 2.20 metres & depth 1.50 metres

Maid service & linen change twice weekly
