The tiny Ionian island of Meganissi is a perfect hideaway for those seeking a peaceful, simple, laid-back escape from a busy lifestyle. Days can be spent doing very little without anyone urging you to do this or that.
For some however, the prospect of a week or more on a small island might cause anxiety.
Meganissi is sheltered by the Greek mainland to the east, Lefkas to the west and Ithaca to the south. Nine satellite islands lie close by. Ideal sailing for those not wanting big scary winds and ideal exploring for those wanting to escape the crowds.
Stay at one of our Meganissi villas and divide your days on land: swimming off Limonari beach (a 1 minute walk from the villa) or exploring the island’s three sleepy villages and interior of olive groves on foot; and at sea: a skippered “island hopping” yacht to visit the nearby islands of Ithaca, Atokos and Arkoudi; Kalamos, Kastos, Kithros and Formekula; Lefkas, Skorpios, Madouri and Skorpithi – a day’s sail for each island group. Return each evening to the comforts of your private villa by the sea.
A skippered yacht charter (a Cyclades 43 foot with 3 double cabins) is £300 per day. So if there are 4 of you, the cost for 3 days yacht charter is £225 per person.
The yacht skipper knows the Ionian waters intimately and can take you to hidden bays, deserted beaches and waterfront tavernas.
This is the best way to see these little islands – the only alternative ways are with a considerably more expensive speedboat or a crowded excursion boat.
